A product whose time has not yet come

Dear Friends,

The Bird Hunters’ Quarterly Video Magazine was a dream that we hoped would be welcomed by the bird hunting community. While our welcome has been enthusiastic by those who have subscribed, their numbers are too few to sustain our business.

We marketed with vigor and a considerable investment. We carefully listened to those with experience in the magazine publishing business. We cannot express the depth of our gratitude to a few specific people who were very generous with sharing their experience and encouragement: John Gosselin of The Upland Almanac, Steve Smith of The Pointing Dog Journal and Ralph Stuart of Shooting Sportsman Magazine. If you don’t already subscribe to these magazines, we recommend you do so. Each has its niche and richly adds to the enjoyment of our sport. Also, Terry Wilson of Ugly Dog Catalog was extremely supportive. Check out his catalog, it’s great!

Our initial investment has exceeded $15K (and five months of our full-time work); plus it would take in excess of $80 K to publish our video magazine for a year. Unfortunately the number of subscribers just wasn’t there (only about 200). We love this work and the people we have met during our beginning months. But now we must accept the business reality and cut our losses.

Either this is a product whose time has not come or our product just did not suit the people to whom we offered it. Whatever the case, we can proceed no further at this time. Will we try it again? We would love to; but for now, Chris Hageseth will return to medical research and content himself to hunt with Jessie and his friends in the fields close to home.

Happy Hunting,

Christian and Laurel Hageseth
